Beirut - The Association of Banks in Lebanon (ABL) announced in a statement on Monday that banks across the country will close from March 17 until 29, while continuing to provide basic services to clients.
Representatives of the ABL Board of Directors and a delegation from the Banks’ Employees’ Union in Lebanon held a meeting on Monday, after which ABL announced the banks’ closure during the general mobilization period to combat the coronovirus spread.
This decision came in response to the Union’s demand “out of keenness on the safety of employees, clients and families.”
ABL said in its statement that banks will continue to provide basic services to clients, including cash withdrawal from ATMs in Lebanese lira, securing the payment of salaries and ensuring urgent business transactions for commercial and industrial companies especially those related to food and medical supplies.
