The Palestinian Authority Ambassador to Saudi Arabia denied on Monday that the kingdom has stopped its financial support, the New Gulf news website has reported. Bassam Al-Agha described the claim about Saudi aid for the PA as “completely false.”

He stressed the “strong historic ties” between the two nations and pointed out the decision by the Saudi Ministerial Council to exempt Palestinian products from taxes. “What is happening is merely a change or temporary delay for the financial payments allocated to the PA as one payment,” the ambassador explained.

Recent news reports said that Saudi Arabia halted its financial support for the PA six months ago. Some said that this was likely to be due to Riyadh’s policy to reduce spending due to the massive fall in oil prices.
