On the afternoon of October 15, the third “Food in Guangzhou” brand launch event and Food Safety Awareness Week inauguration ceremony took place at the Guangzhou Tower. Organized by the Guangzhou Market Supervision Bureau, Guangzhou Business Bureau, and other local authorities, the event emphasized the synergy of “Sports + Safety + Quality,” aiming to further solidify Guangzhou’s reputation as an international food capital.

The third edition of the "Food in Guangzhou" list includes upgraded rankings for star-rated restaurants, brand foods, and notable food stores. The city’s food industry continues to show robust growth, with enhancements in four key areas: range, categories, ratings, and promotion.

The list reveals a broader selection, with 14 companies introducing 40 food products across categories such as frozen drinks, dairy, canned goods, and snacks. Notably, the number of “Food in Guangzhou” star-rated restaurants has increased to 110, with 58 new additions this year. Among the 52 previously rated restaurants, two three-star establishments—Dongfang Hotel’s Nanguo Yanyue Palace and Guangdong Hot Spring Hotel’s Taoran Restaurant—have ascended to five-star status.

The range of food categories has expanded significantly. Pre-packaged foods now include infant formula and frozen drinks, catering to a wider range of consumers. In the restaurant sector, domestic specialties such as those from Northwestern, Hunan, and Sichuan cuisines, as well as international flavors from Latin America and Southeast Asia, reflect Guangzhou’s inclusive food culture.

In terms of evaluation, the city has introduced an innovative system that incorporates user feedback from social media platforms, such as Douyin (TikTok) and Xiaohongshu, utilizing AI to analyze video content for more accurate, real-time reviews. This improvement is designed to provide a more multidimensional and transparent assessment process.

A major highlight of the event was the launch of the “Food in Guangzhou, Taste the National Games” Food Guide, aimed at both locals and tourists. The guide promotes a vibrant fusion of food tourism and sports culture, creating interactive, shareable experiences for visitors. An online “Food in Guangzhou” platform also allows for easy access to dining information and promotes the city’s culinary delights globally.

Guangzhou’s efforts in food safety were also highlighted, with the ongoing Food Safety Awareness Week fostering a sense of shared responsibility among consumers and businesses. As of August 2025, Guangzhou ranks first in China in terms of food production and operation entities, underlining its position as a key player in the national food industry.

This initiative continues to support Guangzhou’s growing stature as a global hub for food and culture, contributing to the city’s transformation into an international consumption center.
