Lebanon, 1949. The country faces an imminent war. Two Catholic brothers, Emilie and Emir, embark on a trip to Brazil. During the trip, Emilie falls in love with a Muslim merchant, Omar.

Emir suffers from uncontrollable jealousy and will use their religious differences to separate them. Before reaching his final destination, during a fight with Omar, Emir is seriously injured in a gun accident.

Emilie’s only option is to go down to an indigenous village in the middle of the jungle to find a healer to save him. When her brother recovers, they head to Manaus, where Emilie makes a decision that will lead to tragic consequences.

“PORTRAY OF A CERTAIN ORIENT” is a film about memory, passion, and prejudice that reveals the saga of Lebanese immigrants in the Brazilian Amazon forest.
