Los Angeles - The Arab American Civic Council applauds the California State Senate for adopting Senate Concurrent Resolution (SCR) 31 on Thursday, April 29, authored by State Senator Josh Newman (D-Fullerton) with unanimous support. The resolution commemorates the month of April 2021 as “Arab American Heritage Month” in California and recognizes the important contributions of Arab Americans to our state.
In his speech, the Senator commended the Arab American community’s great contributions to the State of California, highlighted Little Arabia as a cultural hub in his district, and encouraged his colleagues to reject and condemn bigotry and hate in all forms.
Since 2016, the Arab American Civic Council has been encouraging city, county, and state officials to introduce resolutions and proclamations to honor Arab American Heritage Month.
This year and for the first time ever, the Department of State recognized Arab American Heritage Month. In addition, several California cities have issued proclamations including Anaheim, San Diego, San Francisco, Irvine, Fullerton, Tustin, Garden Grove, Corona, and Rancho Cucamonga.
