Academic and political figure Dr. Chertouni stated: “I am ready for any constructive initiative that fosters communication and rational dialogue toward an actual peace, despite the immense scale of these catastrophic errors. Thank you and Peace.”

In a scene reflecting the sophistication of discourse among citizens of one nation, and in a step aimed at building deep bridges of understanding, Dr. Charles Chertouni addressed a political message filled with intellectual appreciation to the writer Naji Ali Amhaz. This came in response to Amhaz’s article highlighting the unique coexistence in the regions of Jbeil and Keserwan.

Dr. Chertouni’s response was marked by a remarkably positive spirit, beginning with high esteem for this dialogic language facilitated by their mutual friend, Mr. Assaad Rechdan. He described Rechdan as an upright mediator, honoring his well‑known role in defending human and national coexistence values shared by all. This exchange was conducted regardless of political positions—which are an acquired right and a positive discursive virtue for everyone—in order to preserve Lebanon’s global image.

At the heart of his message, Dr. Chertouni emphasized that the story of “Coexistence” (Living Together), with its human and spiritual dimensions derived from authentic Levantine values, is a “sacred national constant” on which there is no disagreement. These are supreme principles that must be preserved and strengthened far from the noise of fleeting political or military conflicts, as they represent the essence of Lebanon’s existence.

Furthermore, Chertouni clarified that his previous approaches did not target social components or the community fabric; rather, they were a soulful “cry of alarm” stemming from his deep concern for what remains of Lebanon—its people and its heritage. He noted that his vision is born of a sincere desire to protect everyone from the bitter repercussions of successive crises, calling for the necessity of prevailing the “voice of reason and moral rectitude,” as advocated by the teachings of Christ and the values of the prophets, when approaching major national issues, far from the language of fear.

The response carried an explicit call for rapprochement and convergence under the umbrella of “authentic Lebanese constants.” He considered that constructive dialogue and openness to peaceful initiatives are the only way to stop the bloodshed of war and transition the nation to the shore of safety and stability that every Lebanese dreams of.

Dr. Chertouni concluded his message in a spirit of total openness, reaffirming his complete and continuous readiness for any constructive initiative aimed at enhancing “communication and rational dialogue” to achieve an actual peace. He stressed that Lebanon’s interest and the dignified living of its citizens must remain the compass and the ultimate goal in this delicate stage of our history.

This refined exchange of discourse between Amhaz and Chertouni has met with wide approval in political and cultural circles, as it presents an inspiring model of “Lebanese‑Lebanese” dialogue that resonates clearly in international circles. This is particularly significant as both voices represent an intellectual value that commands attention both at home and abroad, reinforcing hope in finding national commonalities that ensure the future of coming generations and preserve this permanent and steadfast coexistence as a civilizational message that cannot be broken by the fierce storms of the Mediterranean.
