Two suspected suicide bombers blew themselves up in the southern Beirut suburb of Burj al-Barajneh Thursday, killing at least 27 people and wounding dozens more.
It is also believed the explosions took place roughly 200 metres from Burj al-Barajneh Palestinian camps.
Security sources and witnesses said at least 12 people were killed, while scores more were injured in the blasts, with Sky News reporting as many as 40 people had been hurt.
Images on social media showed a scene of devastation, with scores of people running through streets littered with debris.
The Lebanese branch of the Red Cross claimed as many as 16 people had been killed and issued an urgent appeal for blood donations to help as many as 40 wounded.
However, some reports on social media - from correspondents and witnesses - appeared to indicate the death toll could be much higher.
